About Dimmy
Dimmy is a cross-platform voice-transcription overlay for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Users start recording with a global hotkey and can transcribe speech locally using whisper.cpp or Parakeet, or use a cloud speech-to-text provider. The resulting text can be pasted into the currently focused application. Optional language-model cleanup can refine the transcript. Dimmy also offers a command mode for transforming selected text in place, meeting recording with an AI-generated recap, and a custom dictionary. This combines quick dictation with workflows for editing existing text and capturing meeting notes. Users can choose local or cloud transcription depending on their setup and preferences; cloud features require the selected service. Dimmy is designed to make speech input available across desktop applications.
