About File Hash Generator Free Edition
File Hash Generator Free Edition calculates checksums and cryptographic hashes for multiple files. It supports MD5, SHA-1, SHA-2, RIPEMD, and CRC16/CRC32, and can process an entire file or a specified range of bytes. Hashes can be inserted into files as text or binary data, saved separately, or included in filenames when files are renamed. The application can generate a formatted file list containing hashes and save it for later reference. It supports batch processing of large collections using multiple CPU cores and can run manually, continuously, on a trigger or schedule, from a console, or through Windows Explorer’s context menu. Files can be selected using names, dates, sizes, and content-based criteria, with regular expressions available for more precise matching. This tool is useful for integrity checks, inventory records, and workflows that attach hash values to files. A hash can be compared with a trusted reference to check whether contents match, but the tool does not itself establish that a reference is trustworthy. Its documented scope is hash and checksum calculation, output, and batch handling.
