About hostctl
hostctl is a command-line manager for the Windows hosts file. It can list, add, edit, and remove host entries, and organize them with tags. Tags allow related mappings to be grouped and reviewed, while sorting by IP address, hostname, or tag provides different ways to inspect the list. The tool can also create backups, giving users a copy of the file before or during changes. hostctl is intended for managing local hostname-to-address entries, such as when configuring a development or testing environment. It changes host-file configuration on the computer, so the resulting name resolution depends on the entries present and how the system uses that file.
