About kate

Kate is a multi-document text editor available for Linux, Windows, and macOS. It can open multiple files at once in tabs or split views, and includes plugins such as an embedded terminal, project-wide search and replace, and previews for Markdown, HTML, and SVG. Syntax highlighting covers more than 400 languages, with bracket navigation and spellchecking also included. Multi-cursor editing and configurable keyboard shortcuts support editing across several locations or adapting familiar controls. A project sidebar helps browse directory structures and smart tabs provide access to recent documents. These capabilities make Kate useful for both general writing and code editing, with an integrated terminal available for command-line work. Users can choose an appropriate editing view for each task without leaving the application.
