About MarcEdit
MarcEdit is a metadata editing suite for libraries, with extensive support for MARC records and related formats. It can break MARC records into a more readable mnemonic form, edit MARC and MARCXML data, perform global field changes, validate records, and convert between MARC, JSON, XML, and other metadata frameworks. The tools support batch editing, normalization of character encoding, regular expressions, clustering, reporting, and transformations using user-defined rules. MarcEdit can also work with delimited text, harvest metadata through OAI, and provide Z39.50 and SRU access to library systems. An SQL explorer lets users export records to SQLite or MySQL for querying. MarcEdit is intended for librarians and metadata specialists who need to transform, clean, validate, and edit bibliographic data. It supports Windows and macOS natively, with Linux use through Wine or command-line operation. Its broad set of conversion and editing tools serves libraries that work with metadata from multiple sources and schemas.
