About OpenCPN
OpenCPN is a cross-platform chartplotter and navigation application designed for use aboard a vessel. It can display raster charts and vector electronic charts, and accept position input from GPS equipment. It also decodes AIS input, which provides information broadcast by nearby vessels, and includes waypoint-based autopilot navigation. These functions bring chart display, position awareness, and navigation tasks together in one graphical application. OpenCPN supports marine navigation workflows on several operating systems. Raster charts use image-based data, while vector charts store spatial features. GPS position input and decoded AIS information provide location context for navigation. It can display charts and use position inputs during navigation.
