About Pidgin
Pidgin is an instant messaging client that brings conversations from multiple chat networks into one application. A user can sign in to more than one network at the same time and keep conversations in the same desktop environment, such as messaging over XMPP while participating in an IRC channel. This consolidated approach is useful for people whose contacts or groups are spread across different messaging systems. Pidgin supports a broad range of messaging protocols, including XMPP, IRC, and several other systems. This lets the client bring conversations from different networks together. That range lets the client act as a common interface across services that would otherwise require separate applications. Pidgin’s role is focused on messaging rather than providing a new chat network of its own: it connects accounts to the networks they already use.
