About PuTTY

PuTTY is a client for remote terminal sessions using SSH, Telnet, Rlogin, and SUPDUP. It opens a terminal window on the local computer, sends typed commands to a remote machine, and displays the responses. This lets users interact with a remote computer as though they were using its console, while working from another location. PuTTY also includes an xterm terminal emulator, providing the local interface for remote sessions. It is available for Windows and Unix platforms and is used by administrators, developers, and other technical users who need remote command-line access. Its role is to establish and display the client side of a network session; the remote computer runs the commands and returns their output.
