About smartmontools
smartmontools includes command-line utilities for reading and monitoring SMART data from storage devices. SMART is a diagnostic system built into many ATA, SATA, SCSI, SAS and NVMe disks, and can provide information about device condition. The package includes smartctl for controlling and examining devices and smartd for ongoing monitoring. These tools can report attributes and, in some cases, provide advance warning of disk degradation or failure. It also supports SCSI and SAS tape devices. smartmontools runs on Windows, macOS, Linux, BSD and other systems. It is intended for administrators and technical users who need to inspect storage health from a command line.
