About Steam Link
Steam Link streams a game from a computer running Steam to another device. The host computer runs the game, while the Steam Link app connects over a local network or the internet and displays the play session on a supported receiving device. This lets a user continue a gaming session on a mobile device, television, virtual-reality headset, or another computer. The app’s main role is remote play: the game remains associated with the host computer, and the second device serves as the screen and control point for that session. A network connection is required between the devices. Remote Play Together also allows a user to join a game hosted on a friend’s computer through a shared link. This extends the streaming workflow to games hosted by another person. Steam Link is intended for users who want to play away from the computer where a game is running or to share a hosted game session. The experience depends on a suitable connection between the host and receiving device. Its central capability is streaming play from an existing Steam computer rather than running the game independently on every receiving device.
