About Stockfish
Stockfish is a chess engine that can analyze positions and play chess against a human or another program. It uses the Universal Chess Interface (UCI), a standard protocol that lets chess software communicate with graphical chess interfaces and tournament managers. A chess engine evaluates positions and searches possible moves to recommend a continuation or provide a computer opponent. Stockfish is known as a strong engine and can be used for game analysis, practice, or computer play when paired with a compatible chess interface. Stockfish is intended for chess players and software users who want engine analysis or a computer opponent. It is the calculation component rather than a complete chess database or graphical board application, and is designed to work with software that supports UCI.
