About TranscribeGeek
TranscribeGeek converts audio and video into text on the computer using locally run Whisper speech models. It can write a plain-text transcript beside the source file, with or without timestamps, and can also produce SubRip subtitle files. The application supports 22 languages and can detect the language automatically. Files can be queued and processed one at a time. Speech models are selected and downloaded separately, then kept for later use. Compressed formats such as MP3 and MP4 require FFmpeg for decoding, while plain 16 kHz mono WAV can be processed without it. The application indicates which case applies rather than silently failing. TranscribeGeek is intended for people who need transcripts or subtitles from recordings without uploading the media. It runs speech recognition locally, and the available model size can be chosen to balance resource use and transcription capability.
