About USBip
USBip is a Windows client for accessing USB devices shared by a remote USB/IP server. It connects to a server over TCP/IP and attaches a selected USB device so that it appears to the local computer as if it were connected directly. This allows a device connected to one machine to be used from another over a network. The client supports the Linux USB/IP protocol and includes both a graphical interface and a command-line client. The graphical program is intended for interactive use, while the command-line tool supports terminal-based operation. It includes WHLK-certified UDE and filter drivers, and uses Winsock Kernel NPI for low latency and high throughput. These components support the core task of transporting USB device access across the network. USBip is useful when a peripheral needs to be made available to a Windows computer even though it is physically attached elsewhere. The remote server must share the device, and the client attaches it over the network. In effect, the software bridges the distance between the USB device and the machine that needs to use it, with both GUI and CLI options for managing that connection.
