About VASSAL
VASSAL is a game engine for building and playing online adaptations of board games and card games. It provides a framework for representing a tabletop game in software so that players can participate over a network rather than needing to be at the same physical table. The engine is intended to support both creating adaptations and playing them. For a player, an adaptation provides a digital version of a board or card game that can be used for an online session. For a creator, the engine supplies the basis for constructing such adaptations. This places VASSAL between game development and play: it is the environment used to build a game module as well as the means of running that module with other players. VASSAL focuses on creating and playing online adaptations of board and card games. It is most relevant to groups that want to play tabletop games remotely and to people who want to build digital versions for that purpose.
