About VirtualGL-Utils
VirtualGL-Utils supports remote use of 3D applications by redirecting OpenGL rendering to a server-side graphics processor. Rather than rendering the 3D application on the remote client, the application sends its graphics commands to a GPU on the server. The rendered images are then converted into a video stream that can be sent to a client. This approach allows users to interact with a 3D application remotely while taking advantage of the server’s graphics hardware. The client receives the resulting images and can view and control the application in real time. It is intended for Unix and Linux OpenGL applications and for environments where a powerful server can perform the rendering while users work from other machines. VirtualGL-Utils provides the graphics redirection and image-streaming part of this workflow. By separating rendering from display, it enables remote access to 3D software without requiring the same GPU performance on the client. The result is a way to use server-side graphics resources while interacting with the application through a networked display session.
