About wcap

wcap is a screen-recording utility for Windows 10 and 11 that captures either an individual window or an entire monitor. It uses the Windows Graphics Capture API to obtain the selected screen content and sends the captured image stream to Media Foundation for encoding. The resulting video is saved in MP4 format. When supported hardware encoding is available, wcap uses it to reduce the work performed by the processor and memory system during a recording. This makes the tool suited to straightforward desktop capture, such as preserving activity in one application or documenting what is happening across a display. Its described role is recording, rather than editing or streaming video. Capture coverage depends on the selected window or monitor, while encoding performance depends on the computer’s available hardware support.
