About WinDV
WinDV is a Windows application for transferring video to and from DV camcorders. It can capture video from a DV device into AVI files and record AVI files back to a DV device through a FireWire connection. This supports both importing recorded material for computer editing and sending a finished AVI video back to a camcorder. WinDV is focused on the transfer between DV equipment and computer files rather than on editing footage. Its role is to bridge camera recordings and AVI-based video workflows. FireWire provides the link to compatible DV equipment, while AVI is the computer-file format used for capture.
