About wol
wol is a command-line utility for sending a Wake-on-LAN command to a device attached to the local network. Wake-on-LAN is a method for requesting that a compatible computer wake from a low-power state in response to a network message. wol gives users a terminal-based way to send that request, which can be useful for remote administration within a local network. Its purpose is to issue the wake command rather than manage the device after it starts. The tool is suited to technical workflows where a computer needs to be powered up remotely through a supported network capability. This can wake a compatible computer without pressing its power button.
