About Aftergleam - academic papers
Aftergleam is a reader for new academic papers that creates a short daily digest ranked according to a user’s interests. It learns from how the user reacts to papers, with the personalization model trained on the phone. Each recommendation explains why it was selected. Readers can also explore papers outside their usual interests or browse popular items. The app gathers papers across fields including physics, mathematics, computer science, statistics, economics, biology, medicine, psychology, social science, education, law, and chemistry. Papers can be read as PDFs inside the app, searched for specific words, and saved for offline access. A screen-fitted reading view is available for papers in one supported source format, with text size adjustable to the reader’s preference. Users can save papers, search their collection, and import a reference library in BibTeX or RIS format. Reading history can be exported and restored as a plain file. Aftergleam has light and dark themes and an optional serif font for papers. It does not require an account and is described as having no ads or analytics. The reading history and interest model stay on the device, although requests to fetch papers go to the servers that host them. The app is intended to help readers manage a stream of new research while keeping personalization local and providing tools for reading, searching, saving, and organizing papers.
