About aka Alarm
aka Alarm wakes a user at a chosen time within a 30-minute window. While the alarm is armed, it measures the room’s ambient sound level and compares it with a rolling five-minute baseline. When the sound rises above a configurable threshold, the alarm interprets that change as movement and rings; if no change is detected, it rings at the end of the selected window. The goal is to wake when the sleeper begins stirring rather than at one fixed instant. The alarm tone fades in gradually over 60 seconds. Users can dismiss it with a swipe or snooze by lightly moving the phone, with snooze length limited by the remaining window. A foreground service is used to keep the alarm active overnight. The product says the microphone is active only while an alarm is set, audio is processed in memory and discarded, and no audio is stored or transmitted. It is described as having no network code. Its detection is based on ambient sound changes, not a direct measurement of sleep stage.
