About another.im
another.im is an Android client for the XMPP messaging protocol. It is based on a previous-generation XMPP client and aims to provide standardized communication with other compatible XMPP clients and servers. Users can connect to a public server or choose to run their own server. The app supports Off-the-Record (OTR) encryption for private one-to-one “secret chats.” Its description frames OTR as appropriate for one-time sessions. The client uses XMPP/Jabber, an open messaging protocol, so communication depends on both the account’s server and the features supported by the other participant’s client. another.im is free and open-source under GPLv3. The description encourages self-hosting rather than relying on a server operator, and notes that the Android edition is an improved fork of an existing client. The app is useful for people who want an Android XMPP client and OTR-protected conversations. The supplied evidence does not enumerate its full messaging features or describe how encryption is negotiated, so those details should not be assumed beyond the stated support.
