About APODroid

APODroid sets NASA’s Astronomy Picture of the Day as a device wallpaper. The app presents the current image with its title and date, and lets users read the astronomer’s explanation or open the image’s web page. A star control saves the picture to the gallery, while a framing control lets the user choose which portion of the image appears as wallpaper. The app can check for a new picture several times a day and update the wallpaper automatically when a network connection is available. Users can choose whether the image appears on the home screen, lock screen, or both, and can set the current image as wallpaper immediately. On days when the feature is a video, users can keep the previous wallpaper or choose a picture of their own instead. APODroid does not require an account and the supplied information says it contains no ads or tracking. It communicates with NASA’s science website to retrieve the daily picture and needs network access for updates. Its main purpose is to turn a rotating astronomy image into a changing wallpaper while keeping the image’s title and explanation close at hand.
