About Basilisk

Basilisk is a web browser built on the Unified XUL Platform and designed to operate in a style similar to an earlier generation of Firefox. Its interface and operation follow that familiar browser approach. The browser uses the Goanna layout and rendering engine, which is described as a fork of Gecko, and is based on a platform derived from an earlier Mozilla codebase. The product’s focus is maintaining this XUL-based browser model. XUL is a user-interface technology historically used to build browser interfaces and extensions; here, it is part of the platform Basilisk is built upon. The supplied description notes that the underlying platform does not use Servo or Rust and characterizes Basilisk as a close counterpart to pre-Servo Firefox in how it works. This context helps explain the browser’s design and compatibility orientation without implying support for current browser features beyond the record. The evidence identifies Basilisk as a free, open-source web browser, but does not enumerate supported web standards, extensions, privacy tools, or update policies. Its established identity is a standalone browser using the Goanna engine and Unified XUL Platform, with a Firefox-style interface and operation based on an earlier browser architecture.
