About Bike Radar

Bike Radar displays information from a supported Bluetooth rear bike radar while the rider uses other apps. An edge overlay shows approaching vehicles’ distance, closing speed, and lateral position. Tiered beeps increase as the closest vehicle approaches, with a distinct urgent tone when a potential impact is imminent and an all-clear chime when no vehicle remains within the alert distance. After a ride, a notification can summarize overtakes, close passes, distance, and the tightest pass. The app requires Android 12 or newer and a compatible rear radar paired through Android settings. Radar models differ in what they report: a distance-only device can support proximity beeps, an all-clear signal, and a distance-colored overlay, while speed, side-position, urgent-impact, and close-pass features require additional radar data. Support is model-specific. Additional optional functions include front-camera or light-based automatic mode using a coarse location reading around sunset, read-only telemetry from supported e-bikes, and reminders to lock or not leave the bike behind. An on-device diagnostic log is optional and off by default. The app can share the radar feed with another app after the user approves a named request. Optional publishing to a personal home-automation server can send battery information, close passes, and ride summaries. Bike Radar works without the camera and e-bike integrations, and those integrations work independently. It is an awareness aid, not a safety guarantee, and the description says it should supplement the rider’s own attention and mirrors. The app is open-source under GPL-3.0-or-later.
