About BuzzKill
BuzzKill powers off an Android phone after it has been inactive during a user-defined nightly window. Users set a kill zone, such as overnight hours, and choose how long the screen must remain off before the app triggers shutdown. Outside that window, it does nothing. A first-shutdown confirmation can be enabled, and a ten-second dry-run test lets users check the sequence without actually turning off the phone. The shutdown action uses an accessibility service. The app also requires battery-optimization exemption so the background service can continue running, and Android 13 or later requires notification permission for its persistent status notification. BuzzKill cannot power the phone back on; users need to configure the device’s own scheduled startup feature separately. The product is tuned for a particular manufacturer’s software, so behavior on other devices may vary. It is intended for users who want an automatic nightly shutdown after the phone has been idle.
