About Commitlint
Commitlint is a command-line tool for checking Git commit messages. A linter applies rules to text or code and reports when it does not match the expected format; in this case, the checked material is the message attached to a Git commit. This helps development teams keep commit messages consistent and easier to interpret in a project history. Commitlint is intended for software workflows where commits are recorded and reviewed. It is cross-platform and supports Windows. Its role is narrow and clear: inspect commit-message text and flag messages that do not meet the configured conventions, using a terminal-based workflow to support a consistent history.
