About Cool Mic
Cool Mic turns an Android phone or tablet into a live audio source for an Icecast server. It streams audio from the device’s microphone or a microphone or line-in jack, and supports Ogg/Opus and Ogg/Vorbis formats. Users can configure the stream’s title and artist metadata, audio quality, mono or stereo channels, sample rate, and source username. A QR-code scan can be used for connection setup. During a broadcast, the app provides an input-gain slider, a graphical level meter, a stream-duration timer, and current and peak listener counts. It can reconnect automatically if the connection drops and can share the stream’s URL. The app can also prevent the screen and Wi-Fi from sleeping during a livestream, and offers a predefined test-server configuration for basic testing. These controls support a workflow from configuring an audio stream to monitoring its levels and audience while it is live. Cool Mic is described as open source.
