About Dokan Library
Dokan Library is a user-mode filesystem development library for Windows. It allows developers to create virtual filesystems without writing a kernel-mode driver, which is typically a more complex and sensitive part of operating-system development. Applications built with Dokan can present custom data sources as filesystem paths. The library includes a FUSE-compatible wrapper, helping developers port some existing FUSE filesystems to Windows without changing their core implementation. This makes Dokan useful for building filesystem tools that expose remote, virtual, or application-managed data through the familiar Windows file interface. It is a developer library rather than a general file manager, and its behavior depends on the filesystem application built on top of it.
