About Duo Authentication for Windows Logon
Duo Authentication for Windows Logon adds a second authentication step to specified Windows sign-in and elevation scenarios. The supplied description includes local or domain account logins at the console, incoming Remote Desktop connections, and credentialed User Account Control elevation requests in version 4.1.0 and later. It is intended to add an additional identity check when someone signs in or requests administrator-level access in these situations. The product does not add that prompt to every way of accessing Windows. The evidence explicitly excludes “run as different user,” certain remote PowerShell commands, non-interactive logons such as services and scheduled tasks, pre-logon access providers, and Remote Desktop restricted-admin mode. These boundaries matter when deciding whether it covers a particular sign-in path; the documented protection is limited to the listed scenarios.
