About Forkyz Scanner
Forkyz Scanner is a companion app for digitizing printed crossword puzzles so they can be played in a crossword app. It can capture puzzles using the phone camera or accept an image file or PDF. Scanning is a multi-step process: the user first scans the puzzle grid and then scans the clue columns. Results can be edited to correct recognition errors before the puzzle is shared with another app for solving. The scanner uses image-processing and text-recognition components. Language packs for text recognition must be downloaded from the app’s settings before that feature can be used. The product is described as somewhat heavyweight because it includes these processing components. Forkyz Scanner is designed to turn a paper puzzle into a digital puzzle structure, with a review and correction step between scanning and sharing. It is a companion utility rather than a crossword solver itself.
