About Gemini Desktop
Gemini Desktop is a native Windows client for interacting with Gemini CLI through the Agent Client Protocol. It communicates over standard input and output using JSON-RPC, providing a desktop interface to the command-line agent. The Agent Client Protocol gives desktop applications a structured way to communicate with compatible agents. Gemini Desktop uses that protocol to connect the GUI and the CLI, letting users work with the agent through a native application rather than interacting only in a terminal. Gemini Desktop is built with Tauri, Rust, and SvelteKit. It is intended for users who want a desktop interface for the associated CLI while retaining the protocol-based connection. Its role is client-side interaction, not providing a separate AI model or replacing the command-line agent.
