About GitLab MCP Server

GitLab MCP Server connects AI assistants to GitLab through the Model Context Protocol. It exposes GitLab’s REST API v4 and GraphQL API as tools, enabling assistants to interact with both hosted and self-managed instances. The server provides hundreds of tools depending on the GitLab tier, along with MCP resources, prompts, argument completion, progress notifications, and resource subscriptions. It is distributed as a single static binary and supports standard input/output and HTTP transports. Read-only and safe mutation-preview modes are available, allowing users to control whether assistant actions can change data. GitLab MCP Server is intended to make repository, project, and collaboration operations accessible through compatible AI clients. Exact capabilities depend on the connected GitLab edition and the server’s configured access.
