About Graycie
Graycie automatically switches Android’s grayscale color-correction setting based on the app in the foreground. Users can choose to make only selected apps grayscale, or keep selected apps in color while the rest of the device is grayscale. Apps kept in color retain the user’s saved color-correction mode and on/off state. Graycie saves the prior correction setting and restores it when management stops or is snoozed. An optional “Open safely” feature can pause Graycie’s accessibility service before opening banking or other security-sensitive apps that do not work while an accessibility service is enabled. A local notification remains visible while the service is paused, so the user can resume it. The app keeps its own interface in color, while the home screen and launcher-hosted overview remain grayscale; the active home app cannot be selected. Graycie uses accessibility access only to identify which app is in the foreground. It does not read screen text, inspect window contents, perform gestures, or collect typed text. It reads the installed-app list so the user can choose policies. Settings and app lists remain on the device; the app has no network permission, account, ads, analytics, or telemetry. Setup requires a one-time ADB grant for secure-settings access, which lets Graycie change color correction and restore its accessibility service. Before uninstalling, management should be turned off so the previous color-correction setting is restored.
