About Heliodos
Heliodos overlays the sun’s and moon’s paths on a live Android camera view. By pointing the phone toward the sky, users can see the sun’s trajectory for the current date as well as the summer and winter solstices and equinox. The current lunar path is also shown. Hour markers and time labels on the current paths help connect the apparent position in the sky with the time of day. The app can use GPS to determine the current location or accept a place entered manually anywhere on Earth. Users can simulate the sun’s position at a chosen time, toggle individual paths, and select colors for them. Pinch gestures can switch among available rear cameras, such as wide-angle, standard, or telephoto lenses. This view can help estimate how sunlight changes through the day or year when considering a garden, outdoor space, building, or photography location. The live overlay can show obstacles in the sun’s path from the camera’s perspective, while the trajectory provides a broader seasonal context. Heliodos requires camera and location permissions to provide its augmented-reality view and positioning. The supplied description says it does not collect or transmit data. Its calculations and usefulness depend on the selected location, time, device orientation, and camera view; it is a planning aid rather than a survey instrument.
