About Homer Audio Player for Seniors
Homer is an Android audio player for audiobooks and podcasts, designed for listeners who benefit from a simple interface with large controls. Navigation is flat rather than built around deep folder menus, and users can swipe left or right to move through the app. Titles can optionally be read aloud, high-contrast light and dark themes are available, and turning the device screen-down can pause playback. A caregiver can prepare the device by adding content and configuring playback controls before handing it to the listener. Optional lockdown mode turns the tablet into a single-purpose player by hiding settings, blocking exit from the app, and preventing access to other apps, notifications, or device settings. Outside lockdown mode, controls can include volume, chapter skip, forward, rewind, and adjustable playback speed. Homer plays DRM-free audiobooks stored on the device and saves the resume position separately for each book. For podcasts, it updates the list to show the latest one to five episodes and downloads full episodes for reliable offline playback. A sleep timer can also be configured, with shake-to-continue behavior. The app is intended for seniors, visually impaired users, people with cognitive challenges, or anyone who finds standard media players difficult to navigate. It requires Android 7 or later and includes no ads or pop-ups. The caregiver-managed setup separates content configuration from everyday listening, allowing the listener to use a simplified player independently.
