About Immich

Immich is a mobile client for a self-hosted photo and video server. Users must run and manage the server themselves; the phone app then connects to it for viewing media and backing up photos and videos. The client supports uploads, automatic backup, and viewing of media assets. It also supports HEIC and HEIF backup and can extract and display EXIF information, the metadata embedded in images such as camera and capture details. The app supports multiple users and includes a drag-based quick navigation bar for moving through a media collection. Images can be tagged or classified using built-in recognition models, and assets can be searched using tags and EXIF details such as lens, camera make, model, and orientation. Location information from image metadata can be reverse-geocoded and displayed on a map. The search page also includes curated place and object views. When assets are uploaded from multiple devices, the app can render those upload events in real time. The client can also work with assets uploaded from a local computer or server using command-line tools. Its main dependency is the self-hosted server: the phone application is not a stand-alone cloud photo service and will not work without a server that the user operates. The supplied information does not describe server installation, backup retention, or every supported media format. Immich is intended for people who want a mobile interface and automatic phone backup while keeping the media service under their own administration. The app also supports uploads initiated from a local computer or server using a command-line client. This makes it possible to add existing media collections to the same self-hosted library instead of limiting uploads to the phone. Location display and reverse geocoding use the image’s EXIF information, while tag- and metadata-based search helps narrow a growing collection. Since the client depends on a server managed by the user, server availability and configuration are part of the overall setup.
