About Kõnele
Kõnele is an Android speech-to-text input method that lets other apps accept spoken text in ordinary text fields. When a message box, search field, or similar area is active, the keyboard can provide a speech-focused way to enter text. It also implements Android’s standard speech-recognition activity, which can be launched by microphone buttons in other apps. Swiping and buttons offer alternative controls for situations when speaking is inconvenient. The app can connect to speech-recognition services installed on the device. Its default configuration is optimized for a separate recognition service that uses a server for processing; the supplied description says the default server provides Estonian recognition. That service can be deployed elsewhere and adapted for other languages, and a simpler fast-recognition version is also included. Because speech recognition may rely on a service running separately from the keyboard, availability and language support depend on the configured service and its connection. Kõnele provides the input interface and launches or uses recognition; it does not imply that every language is recognized locally on the phone. Kõnele is useful for dictating into apps that expose standard Android text fields or speech-recognition controls. Its support for buttons and gestures provides non-speech interaction as well, making it a flexible input method for mobile text entry.
