About KryptEY

KryptEY is an Android keyboard that adds end-to-end message encryption and decryption to conversations in other messaging apps. Users compose encrypted text in a separate field above the keyboard, manage contacts within KryptEY, and review a log of messages sent and received. It uses the Signal protocol’s key agreement and Double Ratchet mechanisms without requiring a separate server. Messages can be sent in a plain structured format or hidden within decoy text, and a fingerprint check can verify the encryption setup. The app is described as a proof of concept and supports one-to-one conversations. In group chats, a message can be directed to one participant, but other members cannot decrypt it. Some messaging apps handle copied text as HTML, which can break the decoy-text format; the plain structured mode is recommended for that case. The description also limits messages to 500 characters to stay within services that cap message size. KryptEY adds encryption through the keyboard rather than relying on the receiving messenger’s own encryption, so both participants need compatible use of the same method.
