About LatentJam
LatentJam is a local music player that analyzes the audio files on a phone and uses an on-device model to recommend what to play next. Its SMART queue chooses tracks from the user’s own library based on listening patterns and sound, while avoiding abrupt changes in energy. A compact offline information pack describes hundreds of thousands of artists by language, era, and style. The For You section offers mixes based on time of day, listening phase, a wildcard pick, and a journey through the library’s sound. Search covers titles, artists, albums, genres, lyrics stored in files, and meaning across twenty languages. A year or decade in a query can narrow results to that period. The app builds a map of the library’s genre clusters and reads tags from FLAC, Opus, and MP3 files, including multiple credited artists and original release year. Albums play in disc and track order. Playback controls include fine scrubbing, timed lyrics with seek-on-tap, crossfade, and volume normalization. Users can browse by album, artist, genre, or folder, import and export M3U playlists, edit tags, find duplicates, view statistics, and back up or restore local data. Widgets, a Quick Settings tile, and Android Auto browsing are also available. LatentJam works without accounts, network access, or an online music catalog. Recommendation quality improves after the app has analyzed part of the library, a process that can run in the background. It is a player for local files, not a streaming service.
