About maxdop
maxdop formats T-SQL, the SQL dialect used for database scripts and stored procedures. It uses a SQL parser to understand batches and syntax, then checks the formatted result against the original tokens, syntax tree, and comments. If those checks do not match, it returns the original file unchanged and reports a distinct error status. This safeguard is useful in continuous-integration workflows, where formatting can be applied automatically without silently altering source meaning. maxdop is distributed as a standalone binary and uses a shared configuration approach so projects can follow consistent formatting rules across editors and build pipelines. It can run as part of automated validation in a build pipeline.
