About Mermaid
Mermaid is an open-source AI pair-programming tool that runs in a terminal and can work with multiple model providers. It offers native tool calling, subagents, computer-use tools, and a text-based interface for interacting with the assistant. This brings code-related dialogue and actions into a terminal workflow, while provider flexibility allows users to configure different compatible services. Mermaid can use a local model or hosted endpoints, depending on the configuration. Its role is to assist with programming tasks through the connected model and available tools; the results depend on the model, permissions, and instructions supplied for a session. The terminal interface keeps conversation and tool use within the same development workspace.
