About Metrodroid
Metrodroid reads information from supported public-transport NFC smartcards. Users tap a card against an NFC-compatible Android phone, and the app attempts to display data stored on the card. Supported systems span several regions, including cards used in South America, North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. The exact information available depends on the card type. Some cards require encryption keys, and some are compatible only with particular NFC chipsets. Certain card types may expose only a card number, while fallback readers must be enabled in preferences. The product notes that MIFARE Classic support requires a compatible NFC chipset and that not all phones can read those cards. Metrodroid is intended as a card-reading utility, not a replacement for the transport operator’s payment app or service. Users need an NFC-capable phone, and support varies by both card and device.
