About Microsoft Safety Scanner
Microsoft Safety Scanner scans Windows computers for malware and attempts to reverse changes made by identified threats. It is a manually run tool rather than a continuously operating antivirus service. The evidence says it uses the same security intelligence definitions as other security software but has no internal checker for definition updates; the tool itself is updated periodically. This means its detection information may not update automatically while it is in use. It is intended for running a scan and addressing detected malware, and should not be described as a replacement for ongoing protection. It is run manually when a malware scan is needed.
