About motd

motd is a native Android IRC client that can connect directly to IRC networks or through soju bouncers. A bouncer can keep a connection active while the phone is offline, provide access to multiple networks, synchronize history and read markers, and deliver push notifications. The client supports IRCv3, SASL PLAIN and EXTERNAL authentication, TLS, and client certificates. Conversations include replies, reactions, typing indicators, nick autocomplete, and slash commands. Long scrollback can be searched and filtered locally. Inline images, link previews, file uploads, and configurable chat wallpapers add richer message handling. Routing options include SOCKS5, Tor, and an optional proxy transport available on supported Android hardware. The interface offers Material You themes, dark and AMOLED modes, adjustable text size, and message styling. motd does not require a hosted account or proprietary chat service; users connect to networks or bouncers they choose. Background delivery uses UnifiedPush, and the described free-software build does not depend on Google Firebase. The app requires Android 8 or later.
