About OCR (Tesseract)
OCR (Tesseract) is a companion component that provides optical character recognition to other Android apps. A compatible app can send it a JPEG image through Android’s intent system, and the OCR component returns the recognized text. It is not intended to be useful as a standalone scanner; separating it lets apps offer text recognition without including the OCR engine in their own app package. Before use, a language must be configured, which downloads the corresponding recognition model. The app therefore needs internet access for model setup. Once configured, it provides a reusable recognition service to applications that support its interface.
