About Open TeleScope VR
Open TeleScope VR is an accessibility camera app designed to help people with low vision use a smartphone as a digital telescope. The phone is mounted in a standard VR viewer, and the camera image is displayed as a side-by-side stereoscopic view. The default interface hides on-screen controls to leave a clear viewfinder while the phone is in the headset. Users can control zoom and color filters using a wired or wireless keyboard, remote, or gamepad. On supported devices, the app can switch to a telephoto camera lens and increase digital zoom limits. It also offers an experimental option for manually entering camera lens identifiers when a manufacturer does not expose a telephoto or periscope lens to other apps. Availability depends on the device’s camera hardware and software. The app is intended for viewing distant material such as lecture screens, conference presentations, or meeting displays. Its external-control support allows the viewer to remain mounted while the user adjusts the image. The telephoto unlocking option is experimental, so lens access and resulting image quality can vary by phone.
