About OpenKuma

OpenKuma is a read-only Android client for checking monitors from a self-hosted uptime monitoring service. It connects to servers configured by the user and displays service health without changing monitor settings or other data on the server. The dashboard shows counts of monitors that are up, down, or pending, alongside active incidents and certificates approaching expiration. Users can search and sort the monitor list, mark local favorites, and inspect monitor details such as current status, 24-hour uptime, response times, general information, TLS certificate data, and recent checks. A certificates screen sorts certificates by expiry and provides a visual warning. An event log shows status changes, and an offline cache retains the most recent known state for times when the phone cannot connect. OpenKuma supports two-factor authentication using time-based codes. Only the session token is stored on the device, encrypted with Android’s Keystore; the password is not written to disk, according to the product description. Instant updates are optional and disabled by default; if enabled, notifications use a push service selected by the user. The app is open source, free, and described as having no ads, tracking, or Google services. It sends data only to configured monitoring servers and the selected push service when that option is enabled. OpenKuma is read-only, so its purpose is monitoring and status review rather than changing service configuration. The monitor detail view combines current state with recent checks and response-time information, while the certificates page makes upcoming expiration visible. This lets a user review operational status from a phone without being able to alter the monitored instance. The offline cache is useful for checking the last known state during a temporary connection loss, but it does not represent a live update when the server is unreachable. Users configure the servers directly, and optional push notifications can be enabled separately.
