About PDF Inspector

PDF Inspector is an Android app for examining and editing the individual elements that make up a PDF page. Instead of treating a PDF as a continuous word-processing document, it parses each page’s content stream into a navigable tree of text blocks, vector paths, and images. Users can select an element either in the tree or directly on the rendered page; the corresponding item is highlighted in both places. The inspector can show friendly element labels or the underlying content-stream operators. Editing tools include moving and resizing elements, changing fill or stroke colors, retyping text, and deleting a selected item. Text can be re-encoded using a fallback font when the original font lacks a needed character; a fallback can be bundled, selected from the device, or imported. Removing an item rewrites its portion of the content stream, while edits can be undone and redone. The app saves changes to a new copy through Android’s file picker, leaving the source document unchanged. It also provides panning, pinch zoom, fit-to-width or fit-to-height views, a zoom level that carries across pages, and full-screen viewing. The inspector panel can dock beside the page in landscape or below it in portrait, and can be resized or made transparent. PDF Inspector is aimed at precise page-level changes and inspection rather than flowing text editing: lines do not reflow like they would in a word processor. It uses Android’s document picker to open and save files, and the product description states that it has no accounts, telemetry, network access, or storage permission. The app includes light, dark, and system themes, with dynamic color on Android 12 and later. The document view also supports a zoom level that can persist while moving between pages, helping maintain a consistent scale during inspection. The display can be switched to full screen when more room is needed, while the docked inspector can be adjusted for either portrait or landscape layouts. These controls complement the element tree: users can move between page-level viewing and structural inspection while selecting the same PDF content.
