About PitchVis

PitchVis analyzes live audio through the phone’s microphone and turns detected musical pitches into a real-time color visualization. Its display arranges twelve pitches per octave in a spiral, with each rotation representing another octave. The app can show the changing harmony and melody of a voice or instrument and display tuning drift in cents. Several visualization modes are available, including performance-oriented and minimal views. The analysis uses a Variable-Q Transform tuned for musical signals, with high frequency resolution in lower registers. Pitch-to-color mapping is designed around perceptual color space. PitchVis works offline and can analyze microphone input; an optional advanced mode analyzes audio played by the device itself. The app uses no screen capture for that mode.
