About Readwide
Readwide is an Android reader and file browser for documents, books, images, and archives stored locally. It supports text, Markdown, PDF, EPUB, Word-family formats, HWP/HWPX, images, and comic archives. Users can browse recent files, search folders and file types, bookmark reading material, create folder shortcuts, and search within a document. Text-to-speech includes pause, resume, a sleep timer, and a floating control. The app also supports file operations such as copy, move, delete, extract, and compress, including queued actions and multi-select. Archive browsing can be used to view images stored inside supported archives. Reading history can be searched, and bookmarks and reading positions can be backed up as JSON. Some formats have limits: PDF search works on text-based documents, not scanned image-only pages, and OCR is not included. HWP/HWPX is text-first and read-only rather than full layout rendering or editing. RAR/CBR support is limited, and some archives may not open. Readwide’s default build has no internet permission, account, cloud sync, ads, or analytics. It is intended for local reading and file management, with broad file access used for user-selected files and folders.
